IQ2

If I say “connect IQ squared” one more time and have to retake it again I’ll probably just give up.

I’ve never been a fan of the pedal adapters. I think they are frankly dumb and full of problems. And I’m not sure with this obsession with them came from. Somehow IQ2 came out with a poor design and launched a massively sucesssful crowdfunding campaign of that was so close in design to the now failing “Limits” powermeter that I don’t get it.

Well I do. I can see the obvious flaws because that’s what I do. Sensors, mechanics, understanding interactions. However if you want the philosophical debate of a powermeter I’m afraid I end up like this smbc comic.  It’s quite hard for me to see that other people don’t see the obvious flaws. I’m a little hyper obsessive about finding out things I want to know and will change opinions all willy nilly to the point it has driven friends to get angry with me.

So in IQ2 case, unlike Ceramic Speed, I’m concerned. See in Ceramic Speeds case I believe (with zero information and 100% guesswork) that “those marketing boys are up to their hijinks again!” because I have 100% faith that they knew everything I talked about down in the basement (Where I guess they keep the enginerds).

However, IQ2…. Well it starts with the people.

Keesjan Klant – Founder, says engineer, but lists no education. No strain gage experience.

Woud Vleugel – Co-founder, Says electronic engineer pre-Mega Windforce (which is a startup with Klant as well), Divided focus is bad.

Juriaan Leeflang – RD Manager, and not sure about engineering, but the guy’s got experience in many areas. Seems like he’s probably a fit.

Go and compare this against the Limits team where not a single person had engineerings skills. That means IQ2 has at least 1.2 – 2.3 engineering people! That’s infinitely many more than Limits had.

But strain gages play not well with weird shapes, and when reviewers punch up those tests in the coming years we’ll see that the Chinesium Stages clones will fall behind… And so will anyone with a dumb bending bridge. Compensation or fail the next few years is what I’m guessing will happen. But for IQ2 I think their timelines and experience in this industry will shot them in the foot. Their timeline is impossible but their design is just a few nudges away from working.
